REFLECTIVE SELF-PORTRAIT

SHORT WORKSHOP FOR 16–30 YEAR OLDS
BY RAUHA HELIN

14.5.

The workshop invites participants to pause and reflect on their self-image at a time when selfies have saturated everyday visual culture. Rather than quick, externally defined representations, it foregrounds meaning, self-reflection, and a slower relationship with the visual.

Through a series of writing exercises, participants will explore their own self-portrait expression. Guided exercises will help them examine their feelings, sense of identity, and the way they position themselves in front of the camera. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a self-portrait to take home.

The workshop offers a space to ask: How do I feel right now – and how do I want to be seen? The workshop is open to anyone aged 16–30 with an interest in photography, self-portraiture, and the visual arts — no prior experience or camera required.

Rauha Helin is a visual artist living and working in Lahti.
