PHOTOGRAPHIC PUBLICATION AND EXPERIMENTAL FORM
BY MAARIT BAU MUSTONEN
22.–24.5.
The workshop explores experimental publication formats for photography. What kind of thinking and working does an atypical publication format invite, and what kind of publication engages in an interesting discussion with one’s own photographic material?
The workshop will involve experiments and sketches inspired by examples from the fields of artist books and experimental publishing. Through exercises participants will explore how the form of a publication and its materials, together with photographs, build meanings and the viewing experience.
The workshop is aimed at students working with photography and professionals who are interested in the relationship between photography and publication.
The workshop will be led by Maarit Bau Mustonen, an artist and a publisher based in Helsinki. She has studied photography at the LAB Institute of Design and has since moved to work in the field of art, including text, installation, performance and multidisciplinary collaboration. She is the co-founder of the Multipöly collective, which focuses on experimental publishing.
