A talk about Rab-Rab Press newest release: Bourgeois with a Heart: The Class Suicide of Hjalmar Linder.
Minna Henriksson and Helen Korpak will be presenting Rab-Rab Press newest release Bourgeois with a Heart: The Class Suicide of Hjalmar Linder. It is a book about once Finland's richest person Hjalmar Linder's text Enough with Bloodbaths written in 1918, opposing the inhuman White Terror after the Civil War.
The book presents an English language translation of Enough with Bloodbaths, along with additions of other literature dating from the same period that mirror the text. In addition, the book is further contextualised by Minna Henriksson, who wrote an introduction and a glossary of terms that resuscitate this forgotten historical moment of class confrontation. Illustrated with paper cuttings, the story of Linder is effectively echoed in the afterword written by Helen Korpak.
The book is designed by Ott Kagovere.

Translating the everyday to the medium of a photobook - a panel of discussion with Sheung Yiu, Sari Soininen & Daniel Szalai.
In a panel discussion the artists Sari Soininen, Daniel Szalai and Sheung Yiu will discuss different forms of artistic research in relation to the book form. All of the artists have recently published books together with the Dutch publishing house Eriskay Connection. The talk will touch on themes of translating material to the medium of the photobook and the potential impact of the book form. The talk is moderated by the artistic director of Utopias Lahti Henri Airo.
Daniel Szalai’s work Novogen is also a part of the festivals Pako/Getaway exhibition.

Publishing support – a panel discussion on publishing in Finland
Photobooks From Finland (PBFF) invites guests Paola Jalili (Ei Mainoksia, Kiitos!), Ilmari Pylvänäinen (guest artist) and Ninni West (Photobook Club Helsinki) to discuss the practice of small-scale publishing in Finland, related support structures, opportunities as well as needs for further improving artists’ and cultural workers’ standard of living/working. The discussion is moderated by Tuure Leppänen (PBFF) and will feature a short Q&A session in the end.

Anya Tsaruk and Katya Lesiv
Mother Land – a talk about Anya Tsaruk’s upcoming photobook “Mother Land”, in collaboration with Katya Lesiv.
Ukrainian artists Anya Tsaruk and Katya Lesiv have worked together on the photobook dummy for Tsaruk’s Mother Land project. Together they will present the newly finished dummy and discuss the role of the artist book in their practices. The talk is moderated by Henri Airo, the artistic director of Utopias Lahti.
Mother Land is part of the festivals Pako/Getaway exhibition.
For the after party of the Saturday book fair day, we will celebrate the SEASONAL BOOK LAUNCHES! (Saturday 20.5. 18:00 –>)
